Provides overview of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), an interagency committee established to serve the President in overseeing national security implications of foreign investment in U.S. economy. Reviews procedures, factors for consideration, confidentiality requirements, mitigation and tracking practices, and Congressional oversight of the 1988 Exon-Florio amendment to the Defense Production Act, which authorizes the President to suspend or prohibit foreign acquisitions of U.S. companies that could threaten national security. Covers Treasury Department regulations, the "Byrd Amendment," CFIUS since Exon-Florio, recent transactions, and impact of the Exon-Florio process on CFIUS.
