Explains crediting of military service toward civil service pensions under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS). Examines process to determine required amount of deposit by an employee to the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund in order for military service to be credited. Summarizes differentiating legal treatment of military service contingent on dates served and whether Federal employees are enrolled in CSRS or FERS; and reviews legal developments since 1956.
