- Describes provisions of S. 1549 and H.R. 12, both the American Jobs Act, to promote economic growth and job creation through various measures. Examines provisions to promote hiring and to prevent layoffs among teachers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, veterans, and the long-term unemployed; to assist unemployed workers through unemployment compensation and reemployment services; and to expand workforce development opportunities for low-income adults and youth. Also covers provisions that would authorize grant programs for the modernization, renovation, and repair of elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education facilities.
