Schimmel Collection copy has dated 19th-century ms. gift inscription ("Callie Belle Sterling from her Grand Mamma Christmas, 1868.") in pencil on verso of frontispiece plate. "Callie Belle Sterling" is probably to be identified with Caroline Isabella Sterling (1858-1905?), sometimes recorded as Isabella Caroline Sterling, who was committed to the Connecticut Hospital for the Insane by 1880. "Grand Mamma" is probably to be identified with Caroline Upson (née Sargeant, 1802-1874), her maternal grandmother.
