In both cases, the buyer chooses after careful scrutiny of the object and haggling over the price. It is only in the marriage market that the buyer walks away with both the money and the goods. Even dumb cattle do not take kindly to strangers subjecting them to scrutiny. Why should an innocent girl put up with this kind of humiliation?
