Provides overview of P.L. 98-417, the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984, known as the Hatch-Waxman Act, which revised patent laws as applied to pharmaceutical products to accelerate generic drug approval process. Summarizes amendments made to Hatch-Waxman by the Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act of 2003.
