- Provides background on missile defense in Europe, in light of Nov. 2010 NATO Lisbon Summit, at which NATO heads of state approved plans to develop territorial ballistic missile defense (BMD) capability and to integrate it with U.S. initiative to deploy European-based missile defense system. Examines possible advantages and challenges to planned territorial BMD system, steps taken toward missile defense cooperation with Russia, and European NATO member state BMD capabilities.
