- Summarizes Federal efforts to promote health information technology (HIT). Reviews HIT legislation in the 109th and 110th Congresses; and outlines provisions of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, to build on existing Federal efforts to encourage HIT adoption and use, codify the HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and allow electronic sharing of clinical data among hospitals, physicians, and other health care stakeholders.
