- Examines current VA and DOD retirement benefit eligibility for National Guard and Reserves members. Considers benefit status and situation of individuals who fall outside of eligibility criteria, known as "gray area retirees" (GARs). Summarizes H.R. 270, the TRICARE Continuity of Coverage for National Guard and Reserve Families Act of 2009; H.R. 972; S. 731; and H.R. 2647 and S. 1390, both the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2010; all to impact and enhance GAR eligibility for certain Federal benefits.
