Summary:

The Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards (LEGS) is a set of international standards and guidelines for designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions to help livestock-owning owning communities affected by humanitarian crises. Drawing on evidence-based good practice, LEGS guides practitioners in identifying and implementing appropriate and effective responses to help people to protect and rebuild their livestock assets and livelihoods. This new edition of LEGS incorporates new experience and evidence obtained since 2009 and has been completely redesigned to make it easier to use. The book outlines minimum standards and key actions and provides guidance notes and detailed information and decision-making criteria for six main types of support - destocking, veterinary support, livestock shelter and settlement, and the provision of feed, water, and livestock-taking into account the phases of the disaster and important cross-cutting issues such as gender and protection.
