Fictitious correspondence interspersed with poems and dialogues of Caroline Günderode. The English translation was begun by Margaret Fuller who published the first "number" anonymously with title "Günderode, Boston, E.P. Peabody, 1842". Three more numbers were to follow, but were not published. The translation was completed by Mrs. M. Wesselhoeft in the present edition, p. [v]-xii, [1]-86 (lines 1-11) of which contain Margaret Fuller's part with her preface and an extract from her article in the "Dial", v. 2, 1842, p. 313-357, no. 7, entitled "Bettine Brentano and her friend Günderode". The article as given in the "Dial" contains the translation of a few letters not reproduced in this edition. Mrs. Wes60010selhoeft's translations of Caroline Günderode's poems are preceded by the original text; The "Appendix" (p. [339-344]) contains Caroline Günderode's "Der Franke in Egypten--The Frank in Egypt."
