Summary:
Is race only about the color of your skin? In The Latinos of Asia, Anthony Christian Ocampo's interviews with Filipino Americans show that your "color" depends on your social context. Filipinos are classified as Asian by the U.S. Census, but because of Spanish colonialism in the Philippines they share many traits with Latinos, such as last names, religion, and language. Thus, Filipinos' "color" changes depending on where they grow up, where they go to school, and who they befriend. The Latinos of Asia illuminates both the racial consciousness of everyday people and America's changing racial landscape. Book jacket.
