- Summary:
- All but one of the chapters began as presentations at Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, where most of the contributing anthropologists work. They pivot on the interface between tradition and modernity, and focus mostly on minorities in the People's Republic of China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The topics include the modernity of Sichuan Gyualrong Tibetans, performing Miao cultural individuality in an upland Miao love-song, the culture of world cultural heritage, the bodily expressions of contemporary young Amis in Taiwan, and the continuity of life from past to present among the Nung of northern Vietnam.
