- Summary:
- Latin America has attracted increasing interest in recent years. Interest from East countries has been particularly prominent, beginning with Japanese investment in the 1980s, and continuing in the new century with growing investment from China. This book examines the nature and extent of Asian business and related activity in the region, showing how this is not limited to Japan and mainland China, and that others are also strongly involved, such as the Taiwanese and the Koreans. The books also explores investment in raw materials and in the energy sector, which is so relevant for the development of the region, and analysis trade agreements and their dynamics. It shows how the various countries of Latin America have been differently affected by the Asian presence, and how these growing links with Asia increasingly open up opportunities for a more significant Latin American presence in East Asia.
