After achieving independence on January 4, 1948, Burma kept in place prior law enacted during colonial times. All laws continue to be enforced until amended or repealed.

Annual cumulations are sporadic.

Some acts issued revised.

The British-era legislature ceased to function during 1941-1945, and was only briefly restored after the war. There was a retroactive reprinting of all of the Governor's Acts for Burma issued from Calcutta during the Japanese occupation of Burma during WWII under the title: Government of Burma compendium of governor's acts, published in India, 1942-45.
