- Summary:
- Rather than relying on post-hoc reconstructions of the play experience which are different than the actual event, this book attempts to describe gameplay as an in-situ event, capturing action closer to its original form. Hung provides a broad overview of research on video games and learning from the 1960s to present day, and introduces enthomethodology and conversation analysis into game studies. He compares different types of games, the experience of different types of players (novice vs. expert), different types of play (training vs. dueling) and the representative differences in rules and expectations.
