- Summary:
- The Caribbean is a vast region inhabited by individuals from a variety of cultures, with ancestral ties to various continents, who share a common history of colonialism, slavery, and indentured servitude. Where do we begin to form a culture-specific model of psychology relevant to this population? In this book, a diverse group of leading scholars within the Caribbean explore the conceptual bases for indigenous views on Caribbean psychology and its integration with psychological principles. They examine developmental research on childhood, adolescence, and adulthood; consider health-related psychological issues; review social psychological issues such as fear of crime; and discuss mental health, assessment, and clinical treatment. The result is a book that integrates theory from a number of areas in the psychological sciences and allied social science disciplines to provide a culturally rich snapshot of the regional components of global psychology.
