The 52 emblems of the Proteus, by J. Swelinck after Adriaen van de Venne, are each accompanied by 5 pages of text in Dutch, Latin and French (partly in verse) The Emblemata moralia has 43 emblems, with verses in Latin and Dutch. In both works, there are quotations from various sources, at foot of each emblem.
