Summary:
Manuscript is a short treatise and discussion (nirṇaya) on Hindu law used for consultation for the performance of rites and rituals on special celebrations of the Hindu calendar dedicated to various Hindu deities (Śiva, Gaṇeśa, Kṛṣṇa) including the festivals Navarātra, Catūrthī, Janmāṣṭamī, and others.
Notes:
Title from colophon (f. 75r).
Written in 9-10 lines per leaf.
75 leaves foliated 1-75, upper left and lower right verso.
Colophon: iti śrīmanmīmāṃsakabhaṭṭanīlakaṃṭhātmajabhaṭṭamānukṛte dvaitanirṇayasiddhāṃtasaṃgrahe koṭilakṣāpunahomanirṇayaḥ sāmāptaḥ // (f. 75r).
Dated saṃvat 1832 (1775) (f. 75r).
Single wooden board used to support manuscript. Perforations on either end may have been used for stitching at one time. The name Rāma appears several times as well as a depiction of that deity on the inside facing the manuscript. The title Sūtasaṃhitā written clearly on the center of the board on the side facing the manuscript suggests that it may have, at one time, been the support for another work; its dimensions are about one half centimeter greater than the length of the manuscript and one half centimeter less than the height of the manuscript.
Mistakes covered over in yellow or blacked out; some corrections and additions in margins; significant syllables, words, or phrases highlighted in red throughout; vertical margins marked with quadruple black line.
