- Biography/History:
- Born Nora Louise Magid on March 19,1925, at Montreal, Canada to Solomon Louis Magid (1889-1957) and Valentine Bieber. Magid was an accomplished editor, writer, and teacher. She received her bachelor's degree in English from McGill University and her master's degree in comparative literature from Columbia University. She was the literary editor at the Reporter magazine from 1954 to 1968, where she met her long time companion Gerald Weales. Magid was a columnist, contributor, and editor to several newspapers and magazines. In 1970 Magid became a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania teaching future writers and editors.

- Comprises two letters from Nora Magid's mother Valentine at Montreal, Canada. The letters, dated November 25, 1949 and January 23, 1950, were written to Nora while she was attending Columbia University. Her mother begins each letter "dearest puss," and provided Nora with detailed and often humorous day-to-day happenings of family and friends in Montreal. Each letter has the original envelope.
