Summary:
Following their acclaimed recording of the Brandenburg Concertos, Sigiswald Kuijken leads his ensemble La Petite Bande in Bach's four Orchestral Suites. Alongside the harpsichord, the continuo group consists of two violones, and a bass instrument significantly larger than the baroque cello. What is especially remarkable about this recording, however, is the exclusive use of truly natural trumpets, without the auxiliary holes.
Contents:
Suite no. 1 in C major, BWV 1066, for 2 oboes, bassoon, strings & basso continuo (22:05)
Suite no. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, for 2 oboes, 3 trumpets, timpani, strings & basso continuo (18:59)
Suite no. 2 in B minor, BWV 1067, for traverso, strings & basso continuo (19:32)
Suite no. 4 in D major, BWV 1069, for 3 oboes, 3 trumpets, timpani, strings & basso continuo (18:39).
