Summary:
"The goal of this book is to examine the opportunities for psychology to become unified in the face of increasing specialization and fragmentation. The motivation for the book is to encourage psychologists to unify themselves before the field of psychology disappears as a unified field or before the field splits into many splinter groups and organizations that lose sight of the field of psychology as a whole. The editor of this volume personally believes in unified psychology. The basic idea is simple: to acknowledge our differences but also to rise above them, especially in our dealings with the outside world. It is noted that there are several reasons why unity is important to us, including conserving resources, credibility, profiting from other disciplines, recognizing their interdependence, and asking the right questions. This book presents diverse viewpoints on unification, and it is the editor's hope that the reader finds the issues with which the authors deal as exciting as he does"--Pref.
