Summary:
This book contains seven papers from a conference on diversity and teams held in October 1994. The authors examine diversity in terms of a variety of attributes, with several papers looking at heterogeneity in terms of race and sex. By making this information more accessible, we hope to stimulate new research, which can eventually be used to guide organizations as they wrestle with the challenge of managing diversity effectively. Because it presents some of the most recent research on the topic of diversity within teams, this volume should be of particular interest to social scientists and students interested in studying the issue of workforce diversity. Although it does not attempt to provide direct advice about how to manage diversity within the context of the workplace, practitioners may nevertheless find that this book enriches their understanding of the dynamics of diversity.
