Summary:
The US is witnessing a dramatic alteration in the manner in which health and mental health services are funded, organized, and delivered. Vigorous efforts by large and small purchasers of health and mental health services to reduce costs have placed more and more demands on practicing psychologists. For all who feel the force of these winds of change, this Guidebook was created to put the changes in perspective and to offer guidance for maintaining a viable, profitable practice. Most practitioners are experiencing the impact of this movement to "corporatize" American health care. Surviving the changes will require using your clinical training in new and innovative ways. This Guidebook is a response to the practicing psychologists who have called or written the American Psychological Association (APA) Practice Directorate for assistance in solving business questions related to their practices. From these questions, it became clear that a comprehensive, organized approach to the business operations of psychological practices was needed. This Guidebook is a place to turn for guidance about the business of operating a psychological practice. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA, all rights reserved)
