This volume contains papers presented at a meeting to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the American Psychological Association, which was founded in 1982, and the 175th Anniversary of the New York Academy of Sciences, which was founded in 1817. The papers are primarily historical, discussing historical figures and events in the founding of the APA and early experiments and theories that contributed to the growth of psychology. Other articles discuss the need for students to learn the history of psychology in classrooms, the history of the presidents of the APA, and the history of psychotherapy.
