For more than 6 decades, psychologists have been exploring the needs, drives, sentiments, complexes, and conflicts of personality using the TAT. Developed chiefly by Henry A. Murray at the Harvard Psychological Clinic, the TAT has worldwide uses in clinical, military, and industrial settings; neuropsychological assessments; forensic evaluations; and creativity and motivation studies. Yet researchers continue to debate its reliability and validity. Despite the test's wide use and popularity, no consensual scoring system or set of norms exists for the TAT.
