Biography/History:
Jacob Rush was one of four children born to John and Susanna Hall Rush. Rush was an attorney and later served as a Philadelphia judge on several courts. He married Mary Rench in 1777 and they had four daughters. Rush was the brother of physician, social activist, and Declaration of Independence signer Benjamin Rush (1746-1813).
Summary:
Handwritten letter 12 June 1786 by Jacob Rush to an unknown recipient regarding a legal case concerning Samuel Butcher. Rush provides the history of his involvement with the dispute and defends himself against Butcher's claims. Rush describes Butcher's character as "singular for falsehood." The letter is torn at the bottom center.
