Summary:
This third- and fourth-year culture and literature reader invites students who have completed intermediate-level coursework in French language to improve their language skills while learning about the history, culture, and literature of the francophone province of Québec. The interdisciplinary approach motivates students to think critically and to develop French language skills by connecting various cultural products--including art, film, music, food, architecture, popular culture, industries, and written texts--to the historical and political trends of the various eras of Québec's history, from the period of the earliest French explorers to the present day. The material will appeal to those upper-level students who plan to use their French skills for professional purposes in fields as diverse as business, journalism, diplomacy, engineering, and medicine, just as it will satisfy the needs of those pursuing cultural and literary understanding of the region. The book reinforces intermediate-level proficiency while developing advanced-level proficiency according to the ACTFL guidelines.
