- The book is printed on Kelmscott handmade paper in Old Style Antiqua type in two colors. The printing run consisted of a printing of 970 bound in suede. The First 100 and at least some of the remainder have a blind stamped cover designed by W. W. Denslow. The first 100 also have special water color sketch illumination. Both editions of The Essays of Elia were signed in Elbert Hubbard's name. Regular edition has just initials illumined.----cf. Roycroft Books [online resource]

- Vilain-Wieck Collection copy 1 is number 19, signed by Hubbard, with note by him that numbers 1 to 100 are specially illumined. Bound in full suede, 2-line gilt title within horizontal surround with rounded ends, and patterned silk doublures.
- Vilain-Wieck Collection copy 1 is number 396, signed by Hubbard. Bound in full suede, 3-line gilt title within heraldic surround with rounded ends, and patterned silk doublures. In case.
