- Notes:
- George Routledge and Sons began publishing under that name in 1865. Terminus ad quem for imprint date from autograph dated 1867 on title leaf.
- Plates (each with protective tissue and signed "Dalziel sc."): He was comforted by seeing Jack bending over the prostrate figure of a man (frontispiece) ; Dismounting from their horses, they fastened the bridles to trees, and all entering the boat, they pushed forward down the river (opp. p. 61) ; Charles and he placed the sisters between them this time; and Almagro, after allowing the famished mule and horse to smell the grass, fastened it behind the sledge (opp. p. 136) ; The cheerful voice of Jack singing "See the Conquering Hero comes," brought the anxious party from the house in time to see the approach of the triumphal procession (opp. p. 183) ; To the great astonishment of Lewis, Jack sprung up apparently uninjured, leaving his ponch in the claws of the enemy (opp. p. 192) ; The mule in a moment was over the edge (opp. p. 268) ; Charles and Tom brought the senseless figure of the stranger to Almagro's hut, Jack following them, leading the horse (opp. p. 304) ; "There is a man in the cave," she articulated with difficulty, bursting into tears, "I saw his face above the large piece of rock." (opp. p. 383).

Bone & Son (with their ticket on back pastedown); each board has blind-stamped border; left board has central gilt title and illustration (2 male figures, one armed with a spear, carrying their hunting trophies on a pole through foliage); spine has gilt title, illustration (male figure seated in a bower), and the word "illustrated" at foot.
