- Summary:
- Noah Davey, an 18th century divinity student, being suspiciously involved in several deaths and disappearances in Boston and in Peckerwood, Vermont, fled with a gypsy tinker woman westward as far as the western slopes of the Adirondack Mountains where he lost his gypsy companion but discovered Natural Bone--a man-high bone, stone or petrifaction standing like a rib or tusk out of a meadow, near where the Oswegatchie River flows off the Adirondack granite and into limestone caverns. Natural Bone has certain astounding properties which Davey wanted to possess and which he tried for many years, as the town grew up around him, to suppress and keep secret. This is the story of the eventual triumph of Natural Bone and those who were transformed and transported with it.
