Biography/History:
Comfort was born in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Haverford College and received his Ph. D. from Harvard University. He was a scholar of French literature, taught at Haverford College and Cornell University, and later served as president of Haverford College from 1917 to 1940. Comfort was a prolific writer and speaker on Quaker topics.
