- Few reference tools have proved as useful to scholars, librarians, and students of the seventeenth century -- as well as to antiquarian booksellers and book collectors -- as Donald Wing's Short-Title Catalogue (known universally as Wing). The first three volumes contain over 100,000 entries, covering all known materials printed in English between 1641 and 1700 except serials.
- The fourth volume contains two much-needed indexes. The first lists publishers, printers, and booksellers named on the title pages of books listed in the catalogue and includes chronological subheadings by year of publication.
- The second index lists books printed outside London from 1641 through 1700 chronologically by year of publication and includes subheadings for place of printing.
