Summary:
Treatise on the creation of the philosopher's stone translated from Italian into English by Charles Rainsford (see note, f. i recto). Includes a list of contents (f. 139v-140v).

Foliation: Paper, i (contemporary paper) + 143 + (contemporary paper) leaves; [ii], 1-123; [124-141]; contemporary foliation in ink, modern foliation in pencil, upper right recto.
Layout: Written in long lines.
Script: Written in a cursive script in the hand of Charles Rainsford.
Decoration: Alchemical symbols throughout.
Binding: Contemporary gold-stamped leather. Severe moisture damage to upper edge of text block has made paper deteriorate and resulted in some loss of text.
Origin: Written in England[?] in 1783 (f. i recto).
