First established in 1869 as the Maryland Eye Infirmary, in 1870 it was renamed the Maryland Eye and Ear Infirmary and in 1871, the Maryland Eye & Ear Institute of Baltimore. According to city directories, the institute's dispensary was located at 77 Saratoga St. through 1879.
