Advertisement for Professor Edward S. Franks, an optician and oculist active in New York City in the 1850s, Boston in the 1860s and early 1870s, and Buffalo in the mid-1870s. (He ceases to appear in New York City directories after 1860 and begins advertising as Franks & Son in Boston in 1861.)
