Biography/History:

Desmond Meiring, born in 1924, is the pen name of Desmond Charles Rice, a Kenyan-born British author of more than a dozen works. During his active career, he worked as a policeman, journalist, and oil company executive, as well as an author. Some of his best-known works include The brinksman, A talk with the angels, and The man with no shadow. Topics addressed in Meiring's novels include world tension concentrated in Laos from 1959 to 1960, Middle Eastern politics, the Arab-Israeli conflict, terrorists, and Islam, to name only a few.

Summary:

The collection contains manuscripts for four of Meiring's works, as well as a letter to Richard Simon of Simon & Schuster containing revisions to The wall of glass. Manuscripts included are: The brinkman, Dasturi, A square called silence, and The wall of glass. All manuscripts are typed, and both The brinkman and A square called silence are annotated, presumably with Meiring's notes and corrections. The material is arranged alphabetically by title of novel.
