Biography/History:
Aaron Michael Myers received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in the late 1920s. He and his wife were dedicated lovers of the theatre, both in Philadelphia and abroad. From 1935 to 1936, he traveled in England and Scotland, collecting many playbills, photographs, and other ephemera along the way. He was an assistant or associate professor at Temple University until his death in 1937 at the age of 40.
Summary:
Series one contains primarily photographs and prints from around England and Scotland, including Cambridge, Eton, and Oxford, myriad cathedrals, and London from Myers' trip to Great Britain in 1935. Series two contains a collection of Shakespeariana, including The Shakespeare Pictorial, playbills, theatre tickets, Myers' hand-written notes, as well as photographs and prints from Myers' visit to Stratford-upon-Avon. Series three is composed primarily of newspaper clippings of ads and reviews of the Abbey Theatre Players and Stratford Players in Philadelphia, along with assorted other theatrical reviews and a 1916 copy of Edwin Booth's Prompt-book of Julius Caesar, edited by William Winter.
