Previously published in four clothbound editions [The Roses and the Windows, The Astonishment of Origins, Orchards, and The Migration of Powers], this volume brings together all of Rainer Maria Rilke's French poems, as well as Dedications and Fragments, in an exquisite English translation by A. Poulin, Jr. It wasn't widely known that Rilke, who ranked as one of the finest writers for his work in German, also wrote over 400 poems in French. The French poems were written toward the end of Rilke's life, after producing his masterworks, the Duino Elegies and The Sonnets to Orpheus. A. Poulin notes in his Preface: "Individually and collectively, these French poems bear the unmistakable stamp of Rilke's masterful impetus and imagination at the fullness of his maturity.
