Imprint date conjectured from ms. notes on verso of sheet recording the purchase of various items by a "Mr Messer" from James Macnaughtan between 13 June 1789 and 2 March 1790. ("Mr Messer" is probably Josiah Messer (1753-1830), chemist; cf. E.H. Milligan, Biographical dictionary of British Quakers in commerce and industry 1775-1920 (York: Sessions Book Trust, 2007), p. 306.)

Penn Libraries copy has ms. inscription ("Mr. Messer") in left-hand margin of recto of sheet; ms. inscription ("1790 J Macnaughtan Stoves[?]") at foot of recto of sheet; 2 partially illegible ms. notes (recording items and prices?), both struck through, in right-hand margin of recto of sheet.
Penn Libraries copy has on verso of sheet 18th-century ms. inventory of items, with dates of purchase and prices, acquired by "Mr Messer" [i.e. Josiah Messer (1753-1830), chemist] from James Macnaughtan between 13 June 1789 and 2 March 1790.
