Summary:
Donizetti's touching comedy is about poor, gentle Nemorino (Alfredo Kraus) who loves the beautiful wealthy Adina (Roberta Peters). But, to make everything work out he needs a love potion (fake) provided by the slippery Dr. Dulcamara (the hilarious Fernando Corena). Mix in the dashing, strutting Sergeant Belcore (Mario Sereni), and some of Donizetti's most beloved melodies, and it's easy to understand why "The Elixir of Love" has always been an audience favorite. And with Kraus, at his stylish best, coupled with an appealing Roberta Peters, this is one to cherish.
Contents:
Preludio (Prelude)
Bel conforto al mietitore
Quanto è bella, quanto è cara!
Benedette queste carte!
Della crudele Isotta
Marziale
Come Paride vezzoso
Or se m'ami, come io t'amo
Intanto, o mia ragazza
Una parola, o Adina
Chiedi all'aura lusingheira
Che vuol dire codesta suonata?
Udite, udite, o rustici
Ardir! Ha forse il cielo mandato
Voglio dire, lo stupendo elisir
Caro elisir! Sei moi!
Lallarallara la la la la
Esulti pur la barbara
Tran, tran, tran. In guerra ed in amor
Signor sargente, di voi richiede la vostra gente.
Adina credimi, te ne scongiuro
Andiam, Belcore.
Cantiamo, facciam brindisi
Piochè cantar vi alletta
Barcarolle for two voices: Io son ricco e tu sei bella
Le feste nuziali
La donna è un animale stravagante davvero!
(Ai perigli, della guerra)
Qua la mano, giovinotto"
Saria possibile
Dell'elisir mirabile
Io già m'immagino che cosa brami.
Come sen va contento!
Quanto amore! Ed io, speitata!
Una furtiva lagrima
Eccola. Oh! Qual le accresce beltà
Prendi, per me sei libero
Alto! fronte!
Ei corregge ogni difetto.
