Summary:
Mozart's once-rare opera has become a favorite at the Met, thanks to James Levine's loving conducting of the score and this stunning production by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. In fact, this telecast follows the Met's premiere of the opera by only a few weeks, fully capturing the excitement of the audience as it discovered not only a masterpiece, but also a thrilling evening in the theater. Luciano Pavarotti is in resplendent form in the title role of the King of Crete, with Frederica von Stade as a memorable Idamante, his son, who is in love with Ilia, a touching Ileana Cotrubas. Hildegard Behrens's Elettra is a tour de force.
Contents:
Opening credits
Overture
Quando avran fine omai
Padre, germani, addio!
Ecco, Idamante, ahimé!
Radunate I troiani
Non ho colpa
Ecco il misero resto de' Troiani
Godiam la pace
Prence, signor, tutta la Grecia oltraggi
Tutte nel cor vi sento
Pietà! Numi, pietà!
Eccoci salvi alfin
Vedrommi intorno
Cieli! che veggo?
Il padre adorato
Intermezzo: Marcia
Intermezzo: Nettuno s'onori
Siam soli. Odimi, Arbace
Se il tuo duol
Se mai pomposo apparse
Se il padre perdei
Qual mi conturba i sensi
Fuor del mar
Sire, da Arbace intesi
Chi mai del mio provò
Idol mio, se ritroso
Odo da lunge armonioso suono
Sidonie sponde!
Placido è il mar
Vattene, Idamante
Pria di partir, oh Dio!
Qual nuovo terrore!
Eccoti in me, barbaro Nume, il reo!
Corriamo, fuggiamo
Solitudini amiche
Zeffiretti lusinghieri
Ei stesso vien
Principessa, a' tuoi sguardi
S'io non moro a questi accenti
Cieli! che vedo?
Andrò ramingo e solo
Sire, alla reggia tua
Sventurata Sidon!
Se colà ne' fati è scritto
Volgi intorno lo sguardo
Oh voto tremendo!
Marcia
Accogli, o re del mar
Qual risuona qui intorno
Padre, mio caro padre
Ha vinto Amore
Oh ciel pietoso!
D'Oreste, d'Ajace
Popoli, a voi l'ultima legge
Torna la pace al core
Scenda Amor, scenda Imeneo
