The Ian St James Awards are the most prestigious and most eagerly contested awards for short fiction.
Launched by best-selling author Ian St James in 1988 as a much needed vehicle for new writers to take a first step towards a literary career', past winners and finalists of the awards who have gone on to become published novelists include Kate Atkinson, Sylvia Baker, Louise Doughty, Alan Dunn, Elizabeth Harris, Anna McGrail and Mike McCormack.
This collection of winning entries from the seventh year of the competition reflect the variety of style and genre of short story which is so typical of these awards. All are fresh, original and captivating. The writers include Nick Kelly -- former lead singer and songwriter with The Fat Lady Sings', and Hwee Hwee Tan, whose first novel is soon to be published.
