- The "deux Philostrates" mentioned on the title leaf may be identified with two men of that name, designated the Athenian and the Lemnian, respectively. In the present volume the former is designated "Philostrate lemnien" and the latter "le jeune Philostrate." The first Imagines has been attributed to both authors, and the second Imagines has been attributed to Philostratus the Lemnian and yet another Philostratus (b. ca. 220).
