- Summary:
- Problems and solutions copied from mathematics textbooks published in the early 19th century, particularly in areas of applied mathematics such as measurement, surveying, navigation, and astronomical calculations, including projection of eclipses and determining the date of Easter. Many pages are headed Jas. Rooney and dated, from 14 September 1843 on the first page to 4 November, but the dates are not in chronological order. At the beginning of the volume, several problems have illustrations sketched in ink with limited color added. Multiple diagrams of eclipses are on a foldout leaf at the end of the volume. The end of the volume is disorganized, with added leaves and writing in a variety of directions and inks. Paper over cardboard covers with leather spine and some sewing visible on spine; casual design in ink on upper cover, Blank Book 1843 in ink on lower cover.
