Boyle Collection copy has many leaves that have been reinforced at the margin or mounted on stubs.
Boyle Collection copy bound in full brown leather; boards blind-tooled with double-line fillet borders; spine gold-tooled with double-line fillets; brief title and author stamped in gilt on a red leather label on spine; date of imprint stamped in gilt at base of spine; printed leaves from Ovid's Metamorphoses, book V, are used as binding waste for the pastedowns; right board is detached.
Boyle Collection copy has an inscription in brown ink on t.p., partially obscured: "... the gift of My Dear Mother to E[...] Shottesbrook[e] [...] this incomparable was My Grandmother's [...] The Oak [...] the pious accomplished [...] of Shottesbrook[e] House. She the eldest of the five co-heiress of the very pious learned John Finch Esq. of Fien[e]s Court near Maidenhead. [Illegible signature] 1755."
Boyle Collection copy has the autograph of Nathaniel Ogle at head of p. [3] in brown ink ("Nathl Ogle"), and his ownership stencil in brown ink on verso of t.p.
Boyle Collection copy has an ms. inscription in brown ink recording the purchase of this book at a book stall in Soho, June 1824, on verso of t.p.
Boyle Collection copy has extensive ms. notes in brown ink on the final blank leaf on the life of Robert Boyle, with an ms. marginal note that reads "Vide Robert Boyle in Rees's Cyclopaedia"; also ms. marginal annotations and marks throughout text.
Boyle Collection copy has several leaves of the H gathering closely cropped, resulting in loss of pagination. Pagination supplied in ms. in brown ink, as well ms. instructions on the sequence of the H gathering.
