- Summary:
- The contribution of this book to the field of reconciliation studies is both theoretical and practical. Its authors model the principles that good theory guides effective practice and that practice is the ground for compelling theory. By situating discourse about reconciliation within the context of Girardian theory, these scholars show that each of us is susceptible to the siren call of resentment, anger, and retaliation. Their profound awareness of the power of violence means that these essays about mimesis and reconciliation take on a particular urgency. Using a Girardian hermeneutic as their starting point, each author contributes a chapter that brings the field of reconciliation studies closer to a new Gestalt, one that-though not yet fully realized-nevertheless demonstrates a clear understanding of the challenges and possibilities for dealing with the divisions, enmity, malice, and hatred engendered by violence.
