- 本書收錄明萬曆至清雍正年間天主教史重要文獻四十種, 分編为上, 中, 下三冊 ; 每冊基本以文獻的著述時間为序進行編排, 著述年代不可考者, 酌其內容, 參入編中. 其中第一部分为編者生前已經完稿者, 如《天主實義》等二十六篇, 为上冊；第二部分为編者的親友根據其生前寫作之片段及搜集之資料連綴成文，並經首都師範大學歷史學院中國近現代社會文化硏究中心主任, 作为每篇文獻之说明, 博士生導師梁景和教授審阅, 以替代前言, 如《楊淇園先生超性事跡》等七篇，为中冊。另外，作者于2001年在我社出版之《明末清初天主教史文獻叢編》早已售罄，为滿足相關硏究人員及廣大讀者的需求，並使明末清初天主教史文獻儘可能完整地呈現給讀者,《叢編》進行影印做为下冊。
