The Introduction explains the history of the translation. Eight small sketches in black ink illustrate some scenes. The translator is unidentified, but most likely a British soldier. Written on the inside front cover in pencil is: "Commenced 16 Sept. 1847, by A. I. (unreadable), 3d Regt. L.I." and on the fourth page from the end of the volume written in ink horizontally is "3d L. One page has a list of words in English paired with the translation of the words in Urdu.
