- Summary:
- Manuscript draft for a daily news sheet printed in London, dated 2 March 1702 (Old Style). The news items listed are that the equipage of the Duke of Marlborough has shipped for Holland; the Duke of Ormonde is preparing an equipage for Ireland; frequent robberies are committed in the City; Sir Henry Bellasis's regiment has been given to Lord Portmore; a proclamation has been issued forbidding gaming on Sundays and the sale of alcoholic beverages and chocolate and coffee in public houses on Sundays ("except in case of necessity and charity"); and Sir Henry Bellasis has been found guilty and Sir Charles Hara has been acquitted of plunder during an expedition to Spain the previous year. The draft is written on one side of a quarto sheet (the verso is blank) tipped onto a backing sheet; tipped on to the same backing sheet is a brief note (Sir, In the forenoon if they please) in a different hand signed by William Petyt. Any connection between the two manuscripts is unknown.
